The Yairi factory is in the small town of Kani, in the hills north of Nagoya, Japan. Here they have been making guitars for 80 years. The late Kazuo Yairi was one of the finest and most successful luthiers of our time and helped design and make Alvarez-Yairi guitars for nearly 50 years.
The pride within the factory is immediately evident. Floors are made of mahogany, some walls are rosewood tongue and groove, and furniture is hand carved by the luthiers. The amount of naturally seasoned tone wood is legendary and the production line marries time honored handmade craftsmanship with modern day design and processes.
Every neck is spoke shaved by hand, braces are carved and tops are tuned to perfection, attention to detail and quality of the build is impeccable. Alvarez Yairi guitars are beautifully presented, wonderful sounding, luthier-made instruments, which in our opinion are some of the finest guitars in today’s market.
The JYM80CE features our FST2 bracing system, a very forward shifted X-brace design which was the result of years of research and development. FST2 features hand scooped scalloping to the main braces and asymmetric scalloping to the two tone bars. In this way, we optimize the separation between each string and maximize balance and projection.

We take the same deliberate approach to our finishes, which range from shimmering natural satin to breathtaking sunbursts and shadowbursts. Careful preparation and years of experience allow our craftsmen to keep the finish thin which allows our high grade tops an excellent rate of vibration and movement.
There’s nothing more satisfying than the power and punch a player can get from a jumbo shape, and our JYM80CE looks absolutely beautiful with its rippling solid flamed maple backs and sides. The JYM80CE has been carefully designed to take advantage of a jumbo shape’s best properties. I
It features a solid AAA grade sitka spruce top and is and fitted with the LR Baggs Stage Pro and Element pickup system.
